Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif Monday said that Yellow
Cab scheme was a revolutionary step of Punjab government which would
help in eliminating the unemployment.
He said that the
balloting of Yellow Cab scheme would be made in a very transparent
manner in the presence of electronic media and personalities of the
country will be engaged in the process of balloting.
He was
presiding over a meeting held with regard to Yellow Cab scheme.
Senators Ishaq Dar, Pervaiz Rashid, Chief Secretary, Chairman Planning
and Development, Secretaries, Finance, Transport and senior officials
of Bank of Punjab as well as concerned officers attended the meeting.
Final
shape was given to the matters including distribution of Yellow Cab
vehicles, eligibility of applicants and schedule of receipt of
applications.
Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Shahbaz Sharif
said that Punjab government was taking solid steps for elimination of
poverty and unemployment in the province and huge funds have been
allocated during the current fiscal year for this purpose. He said that
besides providing loans, decision of launching yellow cab scheme has
also been taken enabling the educated youth to stand on their own feet.
Under this scheme, twenty thousand vehicles would be distributed, out
of which 40% will be distributed in the districts of South Punjab, he
disclosed. He said that transparency is the hallmark of Punjab
government and like Aashiyana and other projects, yellow cab scheme
would also be completed in a most transparent manner. He said that an
effective system would also be evolved for scrutinizing the particulars
of successful applicants in the balloting of yellow cab so that only
deserving persons should benefit from this scheme. He directed to
evolve the system of balloting at tehsil level instead of district
level so that equal opportunities of getting vehicles could be
available to all. He said that a wide media campaign would be launched
from July 15 for public awareness regarding important points of the
scheme, after that the process of receipt of applications would be
started. He said that besides representation of all divisions, such
persons would also be invited for balloting as have prominent place in
the society and everyone has confidence in them.
Earlier,
Secretary Finance, Tariq Bajwa, highlighting important points of yellow
scheme, told that after negotiations with the concerned company, Rs.40
core have been saved in the purchase of vehicles and out of 20,000
yellow cabs, 80% would be Mehran and 20% Bolan vehicles. He also
informed about the schedule of applications and parameters for getting
these vehicles and told that forms would also be available on the
website of Punjab Bank and Transport Department as well as in the
branches of Bank of Punjab whereas these forms would also be published
in the newspapers. Participants of the meeting also presented their
