Chinese firm to help Pakistan generate 10,000-megawatts of power

China will help Pakistan generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity through different projects, China Three Gorges Project Corporation (CTGPC) director general has said.

The CTGPC has built the world's biggest hydroelectric project 'Three Gorges Dam'- located in Hubei province of China.

Wang Shoofeng said that under the China-Pakistan collaboration, a number of Chinese experts were working in Pakistan on scores of power projects.

He also revealed that a wind and solar project had also been initiated in Pakistan by China, while the 1100-megawatt Kohala hydropower project was under way with total costs of two billion dollars.

"This project is near Mangla and it would generate 720-megawatt power," Shoofeng said.

He further emphasized that China was interested in investing.

"We want to invest more in Pakistan as per its environment and location. Therefore, we have signed several agreements and memorandums with Pakistani ministries, government and WAPDA," the Dawn quoted Shaofeng, as saying.

"Our business in Pakistan would be comprehensive as we desire to support Pakistan," he added.

The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is a government-owned public utility maintaining power and water in Pakistan. ANI
