Shutter-down strike in Karachi against killing of MQM leader

KARACHI: A complete shutter-down strike was being observed in Karachi, Hyderabad and other cities of Sindh against the killing of MQM’s former MPA Liaquat Qureshi.

All small and large shops, and markets are lying closed while public and private transport is off the roads. Karachi is in the grip of target killings for the last several months. Unabated targeted attacks have left the people scared.
As soon as MQM gave a mourning call on Saturday evening, all small and large markets were immediately closed down in the city. Apart from public transport, private vehicles have remained off the roads.
Black flags have been hoisted on offices of MQM and all other buildings. Meanwhile, more than a dozen private vehicles were torched in the mega city during the mourning day, police said.
Officials said the incidents of burning several vehicles by unknown miscreants were reported at Moosa Colony, Burn Road, NIPA Chowrangi, Liaqat Abad, North Nazim Abad and Shahrah-e-Quaiden. They said police and Rangers had been put on high alert in order to stop the loss of public properties. All trade activates remained halted today with public transport off the road. Online
