Plight of women hostel despicable

ISLAMABAD: The renovation work on Women Working Hostel is in doldrums by the city fathers as they left job incomplete.

The maintenance and renovation work of the women hostel, situated in G/6 Sector of the federal capital was started in the month of April by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The project was financed by Ministry of Women Development as it released Rs. 2.6 million to the CDA for timely completion of the work.
After the 18th constitutional amendment the charge of the women working hostel was shifted to the ministry of human rights, earlier it was under the control of Ministry of Women Development.
But as Ministry of Human Rights took over the charge of the building, it neither asked CDA for early completion of the pending work nor released any funds to mitigate the sufferings of female government employees residing in the hostel.
The building of the hostel gives a deserted look, as it was never whitewashed since long time. The washrooms in the hostel are in such shabby condition that they have become almost out of use. Cement has been removed from the walls of the rooms as seepage has covered entire building, which also spoiled the valuables of the residents. The wiring inside the hostel has become so much outdated that any incident can take place at any time.
An official source in the hostel told this scribe on the condition of anonymity that after dissolution of the Ministry of Women Development to the provinces under the 18th constitutional amendment, the CDA left the maintenance work uncompleted and no progress has been made on it until present.
The sources further said private security guards at entrance of the hostel were paid by the ministry of women development, who left the duty due to delay in salaries for over three months when charge of the hostel shifted to the Ministry of Human Rights.
Sources added that Ministry of Human Rights has not yet appointed new security personnel, which poses serious security lapse and female occupants feel themselves unsafe without any security guard for the hostel.
It is pertinent to mention here that the dwellers as well as officials of the hostel urged the authorities concerned to take immediate notice of the situation for completion of the maintenance work and recruitment of security guards for the hostel.
When Online tried to contact Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Advisor to PM on Human Rights he was not available in his office. Similarly when this scribe tried to know the version of CDA no one there responded properly as they threw the debris on other officials. Online
