‘Mother of Democracy’ Begum Bhutto laid to rest

GARHI KHUDA BUX: Former first lady Begum Nursat Bhutto was laid to rest in her family mausoleum at Garhi Khuda Bux in Larkana on Monday.

Thousands of people attended her funerals, held in Naudero, some 10 kilometers from Garhi Khuda Bux.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, federal ministers, parliamentarians and many others attended the funeral of Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
Begum Nusrat Bhutto, 82, the widow of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the mother of Benazir Bhutto, died in Dubai on Sunday after a protracted illness. Her dead body was brought to Sukkkur from a chartered plane.
President Zardari, Bilawal Zardari, Asifa Bhutto and Bakhtawar accompanied her body from Dubai to Pakistan.
A 10-day period of national mourning has been declared by the government of Pakistan on Sunday. Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had announced a public holiday on Monday to mourn the death of Begum Bhutto.
Begum Nusrat Bhutto’s body received a guard of honour at the Sukkur airport and earlier on Monday the acting President approved conferment of Nishan-e-Imtiaz award on the former first lady Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
In a statement, former two-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also extended his condolences to Bhutto family at the demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto. Online
