Difa-e-Pakistan Conference vows to defend country

LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that Pakistan enjoyed the status of a mosque for the nation and it stood united to preserve its solidarity and integrity.

This he said while speaking at the All Parties Difa-e-Pakistan Conference here on Monday.
Maulana Samiul Haq, Jama’t Al Dawa chief, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, Lt Gen (Retd Hamid Gul, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Ejazul Haq, Tanseem e Islami chief Hafiz Aakif Saeed, Prof. Abdur Rahman Makki and others also addressed the conference.
According to a press release, Syed Munawar Hasan said that the US was an open enemy of Pakistan but the Pakistani rulers were still pursing pro-US policies. He said, if the rulers did not abandon the pro-US policies and the armed forces did not discharge their duty for the country’s defense, it would be too late.
The JI chief said that the US wanted to punish this country for its defeat in Afghanistan. He said that the nation stood behind its armed forces and would fight shoulder to shoulder with its soldiers in case of any aggression.
He said that the nation had lost confidence in the rulers who were blindly toeing the Washington line and had also failed to implement the resolutions of the parliament and the APCs.
The JI chief stressed upon the armed forces to check drone attacks and stop logistic support for the US.
He urged the Ulema and the religious scholars to play their role for the unity of the nation. He said that if the intelligence agencies knew the Raymond Davis group, they should take necessary action against them.
The conference strongly condemned the government decision to accord Most Favourite nation status to India by pushing the Kashmir issue to the backburner. It also urged the Supreme Court to take notice of the drone attacks and direct the government and the armed forces to defend the Pakistani citizens.
Meanwhile, talking to the Tunisian leader through telephone, the JI chief said that Tunisia had taken the lead in an uprising against dictatorship in the Arab world and the victory of thee Nahdhah party was the beginning of a real change in the Muslim world.
