KARACHI: The President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA),
Asma Jehangir underlined that politics of extortion is being practiced
in Karachi and MQM is the initiator of extortion.
Speaking
outside the Supreme Court Karachi Registry on Tuesday, Asma told host
of journalists that intelligence report was read out during the
hearing. She said politics of extortion is being practiced in Karachi
and MQM is the initiator of extortion while different political,
religious and banned outfits followed suit.
She said that
intelligence agencies have the list of criminals and their addresses.
Asma Jehangir said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) introduced
extortion in Karachi. She added that this party has a huge terrorist
network which has been creating havoc for the last ten years, but no
action was taken against them.
The SCBA President said the
court would have to assess its jurisdiction otherwise in the future
people might say that the Supreme Court should also have proceedings in
Waziristan.
She said that demands are being made of army in
Karachi but as I have said before what would be the effects of army in
the city. However no compromise on democracy would be made
