Khurshid Shah elected as head of parliamentary body on Karachi, Quetta law & order situation

A special parliamentary committee on Karachi and Quetta has elected Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah of Pakistan Peoples Party as its head. The meeting of the committee was held in Islamabad here on Tuesday.

The committee is mandated to look into the law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta and report back to the National Assembly with recommendations within two months.
The name of Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah for the chairmanship of the Special Committee was proposed by Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, MNA/Minister for Railways and seconded by all the members of the committee.
The election was conducted by Mr. Karamat Hussain Niazi, Secretary National Assembly.
After the election, Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah thanked his fellow parliamentarians for reposing confidence in him by electing him as the Chairman of the Committee.
Other members of the committee are Qamar Zaman Kaira, Noor Alam, Dr. Ayatullah Durrani, Abdul Qadir Patel, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Zahid Hamid, Rana Tanvir Hussain, Ghous Bux Khan Maher, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Zubaida Jalal, Syed Haider Abass Rizvi, Khawaja Sohail Mansoor, Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and Haji Khuda Bux Rajar.
Later talking to the media persons, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah said that the terms of reference of the committee will be finalized in its meeting on the 12th of this month.
He assured that the committee will conduct its proceedings freely and fairly above political lines to resolve the situation in Karachi and Quetta, adding that advice would be sought from the law minister before discussion on Karachi.
He assured them that he would endeavor to make the committee purposeful by the collective wisdom of all the Members.
He agreed that the committee has been mandated an important task, therefore, it would instantly start deliberating upon the issue so that findings of the Committee could be submitted to the House within the stipulated time.
On a point raised by Members of the committee, it was decided to constitute a two Member Sub-committee comprising of MNAs Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada and Mr. Zahid Hamid to suggest amendments in the ToRs of the Committee. It was also decided that the approval of the amended ToRs would be sought from the House during ensuing Session of the National Assembly. SANA
