ANP for complete overhaul of foreign policy

ISLAMABAD: The Awami National Party (ANP) has demanded complete overhauling of foreign policy of Pakistan, especially towards Afghanistan that has brought insecurity in the country.

In an interview with Online on Thursday when All Parties Conference (APC) was convened to consider the situation emerged after the US blames against Pakistan, the ANP Spokesman, Zahid Khan said that Pakistan’s policies had completely failed to benefit the country.
“How can be our policy successful when after so much sacrifices of lives, properties and economy we are blamed by our ally (US) and at the same time militants do not trust us. While all the kidnappers work in collusion with Haqqani Group,” he said.
He elaborated a long list of destruction of businesses due to militancy and the resultant conflict and also discussed loss of human lives, saying that the nation was bearing brunt of the policies continuing for few decades.
He said that Pakistan should realise that doubts in the region would never bear fruit for it and good and fair relations with neighbours like Afghanistan was durable solution that could bring peace in the region. “Instability and confusion in Afghanistan would mean insecurity and destruction in Pakistan. Peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan. Afghanistan and Pakistan are inseparable”, he added.
He said that even the Islamic political parties now realize that in the past it was not Jihad supported by US and if that was jihad then what is it now?
Pakistan always comprised principle for foreign powers and never continued its independent foreign policy. “It is time to formulate a policy that can serve interest of the people of Pakistan and not a foreign country,” the ANP leader said.
When he was asked to shed light on mechanism of formulation of the proposed foreign policy, Zahid Khan said all the political parties should propose foreign policy and the policies that would have influence inside the country and then it should be brought to the Parliament for debate.
“Let me clear that the Establishment should no more meddle in the policy making as it is not their job,” the ANP Information Secretary said.
On internal policies, he said that it was a fact and Pakistan should accept that the government writ in tribal areas is absent.
Khan said, “Establishment of writ on every inch of Pakistani soil is essential for bright future.”
Commenting on US threats and blames against Pakistan, he said everyone will stand against America if any adventurism was tried, however, “We should think about our flaws as well and review it”.
He said that all the political forces should now be united for finding out flaws in the policies and suggesting sustainable strategy. Online
