LAHORE: Director General Health services Dr Aslma ch has said that
the dengue situation of Punjab is under control, while the diagnosis
and treatment facilities are provided free of cost to everyone with out
any discrimination.
ddressing the dengue seminar being
organized by Pakistan medical society in collaboration with Lahore bar
association, here at Lahore bar room civil secretariat, Lahore. Dr
Aslam Chaudhry said there were plenty of plateletstransfusion kits for
any future dengue crisis, urging additional government, public
cooperation as important to bring an effective control of dengue fever,
which was not only affecting Pakistan, butmajor viral disease gripping
the world at the moment, with more than 2.5 billion peoples at risk.
He
urged that people should not panic as the mortality associated with
dengue fever is far less than that of viral hepatitis, diabetes,
hypertension, CVA, and even the road side accidents.
Chairman
Pakistan medical society Dr Masood Akhtar sheikh said that the efforts
has been made to genetically modify the dengue carrying mosquito so
that its life span is reduced from a normal of 2-3 weeks to 2-3 weeks
only , thus turning the mosquito unsuitable for the virus spread.
Dr
Masood sheikh said that the platelets transfusion , though a very
important treatment option should be reserved for special cases only,
as undue platelets transfusion may be dangerous, may result in
transfusion related disease like hepatitis C.B and AIDS, in addition to
hypersensitivity reaction against platelets. He suggested that even
30,000 platelets or below can be maintained by keeping an effective and
close monitoring of the patients.
He said that the platelets
kits were being sold on 10-15 time of their actual prices last year due
to the panic created in general public by disease, demanding that
government should announce national and provincial dengue spray days,
in which not only the fumigation should be done on streets and parks,
and the people should spray their houses and inside rooms with
insecticide on the same days.
He said that effective control of
dengue fever was not possible with out community participation, and
Pakistan medical society has started an advocacy campaign in which the
opinion builders will be briefed about the disease,

that a community dengue awareness seminar will be followed after Eid in
a salamt-pura community in collaboration with city hospital. Online
