ISLAMABAD: The sub-committee of N.A’s PAC (Public Accounts
Committee) has expressed its strong concerns over Rs.20 billion worth
of gas pilferage.
Talking to media after the meeting of
sub-committee of PAC convened by Yasmeen Rehman on Thursday, she
expressed her chagrin over this massive broad daylight pilferage has
demanded the report regarding steps taken for stemming this enormous
pilferage from Sui gas administration.
She also directed the
concerned authorities to present her a detailed list of all and sundry
involved in this massive daylight pilferage, in order to facilitate due
legal action against culprits.
She also informed that a regular
Gas act was being legislated to deal against those involved in
pilferages; which should stop the Rs.20 billion worth of gas pilferages
and losses.
She said that if there was no gas available, she
saw no reason for any new connections, or/and either laying down gas
pipes, besides refraining from voicing false hopes to already
disgruntled masses.
Replying to a question, she informed that
the issue of gas theft in police colony Rawalpindi, going on since past
15 years would be brought into the notice of I.G Punjab and interior
ministry, besides raising the issue in front of MPAs and Punjab CM as
well.
Replying to another question, she informed that SNGPL had
recovered outstanding revenue worth Rs165 billion, while replying to
yet another question, she said that SNGPL faced 8000 court cases, and
relevant authorities have been directed to expedite these.
She
also informed that Rs 7 billion had been allocated for various schemes
of Sui gas related developmental schemes in 2008, while currently the
department lacked funds, resulting in failure of these schemes. Online
