US should share information on al-Zawahri with Pak: ISPR

Rawalpindi: Pakistan military Sunday asked United States to share information about the presence of newly chosen Al-Qaeda chief in tribal areas of Pakistan.

In response to the statement of Mr Panneta about presence of Al Qaeda leadership in Pakistan’s tribal areas, a spokesman of ISPR said that Pakistan Army is already carrying out intense operations against ALQ and its affiliates who are a threat to security of our country and people.
This includes pursuit and targeting ‘terrorists leadership and high value targets’. We expect US Intelligence Establishment to share available information and actionable intelligence regarding Al Zawahari and other HVTs with us enabling Pakistan Army to carry out targeted operations, spokesman concluded.
Earlier on Saturday ewly appointed US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta said that he believed Aymin Al-Zawahiri, Al Qaeda`s new commander, was now living in the tribal areas of Pakistan.
“Zawahiri is one of those we would like to see the Pakistanis target along with our help,” Panetta said, adding about Pakistan that “we`ve got to continue to push them.” Online
