ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has cancelled notification in regard
to making Sohail Ahmad as OSD and ordered for his restoration to the
post of secretary establishment within a week.
The SC took up
Hajj Corruption case on Friday for hearing., The court asked Attorney
General (AG) what was reaction of Prime Minister (PM) on making
secretary establishment Sohail Ahmad as OSD. AG told PM was busy in the
meeting, therefore, he could not meet him.
The court pronounced
it judgement saying it should be implemented in letter and spirit. SC
cancelled the notification of making Sohail Ahmad as OSD and directed
competent authority to restore Sohail Ahmad to the post of secretary
establishment within 7 days. As soon as he returns he be handed over
charge in FIA and the entire investigation team be kept under his
charge to probe into the case.
SC remarked if competent
authority does not restore him then he will stand restored
automatically. The step to making Sohail Ahmad as OSD was illegal.
Government has authority to appoint and transfer Sohail Ahmad but it
has no powers to make civil servant OSD, SC observed.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case for indefinite period. Online
