JI threatens to launch mass protest against new FATA laws

ISLAMABAD: Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, Senator Professor Ibrahim has said President Asif Ali Zardari by signing the FATA and PATA Regulations actually issued the decree of death of 15 million people living in the federally and provincially administered tribal areas.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Senator asked the president to withdraw the regulations otherwise President, PM, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Houses, CM and Governor Houses would be encircled in the head of protest.
The two regulations, which are almost identical, have been given effect from February 1, 2008, to provide legal framework to the military operations conducted in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Provincially Administered Tribal Areas (PATA).
Under the aforementioned regulations, the army operations were not only given legal protection but also handed over extensive powers to army, he added. Professor Ibrahim further stated that in fact the regulations protected the illegal activities of army in Malakand Division and tribal areas. He said that under the regulations no one even prayer-leader would be consider if anyone talk against the army operation.
The bill would also be challenged in the apex court, said provincial head of the party adding that the so-called democratic government, led by Pakistan People’s Party and Awami National Party, by promulgating the law had committed a serious crime against the people of the country.
He urged the president to withdraw from the regulations as these are clear violations of fundamental human rights.
Furthermore the JI leader also condemned the statement of Rehman Malik in which he had stated that Tablighi missionary centre in Raiwaind is the breeding ground of extremism and terrorism in Pakistan as the centre has a major role in brainwashing the extremists.
He clarified that no terrorist’s links with JI has been proved thus far, adding that Malik should think before uttering words. Online
