ISLAMABAD: The Inquiry Commission on Abbottabad Operation Tuesday
chalked out modalities of its working and decided that its proceedings
will be independent, transparent, thorough, impartial, nonpartisan and
in camera whenever required.
The commission further decided
that senior civil, military and political leadership will also be
requested to attend the proceedings if needed by the Commission.
According
to a press release, the first meeting of the Inquiry Commission held in
the Committee Room of the Cabinet Division under the Chairmanship of
Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court of
Pakistan and President of the Commission.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Commission Abbas Khan, I.G.(R), Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, and Lt. Gen (R) Nadeem.
The
Commission met in accordance with the terms of reference assigned to
ascertain full facts regarding the presence of Osama Bin Laden in
Pakistan for such a long time, and investigate circumstances and facts
regarding the US operation. It will also determine the nature,
background and causes of lapses of authorities concerned, if any; and
make consequential recommendations.
Individuals who are
interested in appearing before the Commission with information
pertaining to Abbottabad Operation will be invited through press/media
to inform the Commission by 31st July, 2011. They will be notified by
the Commission about the date, time and venue for their appearance.
Their identity will be kept confidential and they will also be legally
protected. Commission can co-opt experts of specified fields for any
kind of assistance.
Ministry of Interior and ISI have been
directed to ensure that the family of Osama Bin Laden is not
repatriated from Pakistan without the consent of the Commission. The
next meeting of the Commission will be held on Monday the 11th July,
2011. Online
