LAHORE: Provincial Minister, Prison Department Punjab Malik Iqbal
Chunarr said that the construction of 14 new jails are under progress
to provide maximum facilities to the prisoners.
He said this
while talking to a delegation from NGO here on Saturday, the Provincial
Minister said that at present there are 32 jails having capacity of
22,000 prisoners while 52,000 are present.
As a result, we have been facing number of issues particularly administrative difficulties.
While
emphasizing over the need of new jails, he said that 14 new jails are
under construction which would help to minimize the burden from
existing jails and it will also improve the administrative structure.
The Minister further informed that routine wise medical check up is our
priority to ensure the health of prisoners. Moreover, high security
