Senate’s body shows anger for not giving Rs 3 bln for development projects

Islamabad: The Senate’s Standing Committee on Cabinet Division has expressed its displeasure for not issuing Rs. 3 billion in the head of developmental projects on the recommendation of the parliamentarians .

Acting Chairman of the committee Senator Safdar Abbasi presided over the meeting that decided to write a letter to Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani in which it would be suggested that development funds of Rs 6 billion might be allocated for the members of the parliaments out of PM’s Rs. 28 billion discretionary funds.
The committee also showed resentment over the non-issuance of Rs 3 billion arrears of the development funds of the parliamentarians from 2008 to 2011. The non-issuance of funds resulted non-completion of many projects.
During the meeting Secretary Cabinet Division Nargis Saithi told the standing committee that the development fund to the parliamentarians were issued on political grounds so it would be better that the member of the parliaments may talk to Prime Minister directly.
The meeting was informed that Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani wrote some 926 recommendation letters for the development projects of the parliamentarians out of which funds were issued on about 809 letters, whereas last year funds of Rs 21.2 billion were issued out of total grant of Rs 25 billion.
The committee was also apprised that Rs 11.36 billion were issued to Punjab, Rs 4.1 billion to Sindh, Rs3.2 billion to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rs 1.34 billion to Baluchistan, Rs 1.4 billion to AJK and Rs 409 million to FATA during last financial year. Online
