ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani has said that the government is committed to providing first rate care facilities to the people across the board without any discrimination, whether in big cities areas or the remote and far flung localities.
This he said while speaking at inaugural ceremony of Federal Medical and Dental College here on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister said that the ever-increasing growth in population and the consequent pressure on health facilities in the urban centers demands to improve and up gradation of health infrastructure in the rural and semi-urban areas providing services at people’s doorsteps.
“Cognizant of the increasing number of cases of liver infections in the country and with a view to sparing the affected families the agony of taking these patients abroad and spending millions in foreign exchange, I directed the establishment of the country’s first-ever liver transplant center. The government provided funds for the projects instantly and work is now near completion. This will be a life saving facility for thousands of families who suffer because they are unable to afford the highly expensive treatment of this life threatening condition”, PM added.
He said that the government gave new pay structure for the Para-medics ,which is aimed at giving dignity to this vital link in the health-care services.. This was a landmark achievement as no previous governments had been able to take such a bold step.
He said that with the establishment of medical college in Islamabad, another promise made with the people. The establishment of college was a long standing demand of the residents of the Federal Area. It would be the first public sector medical college in the country where fee-structure will be affordable while providing top quality medical education at par with international standards.
He said that the people could recall 2010, when the nation was confronted with grave challenges of unprecedented floods. The cabinet directed to setup a National Health Emergency and Response Network to deal with all issues pertaining to health-care in the affected districts. Hundreds of thousands of precious lives were saved with this network providing health-care services to those in need in the length and breadth of Pakistan.
“We believe in actions rather than words. Provision of an integrated health facility to residents of Bharakahu and rural areas of Islamabad is a reflection of the same. We converted an almost non-functional health centre in to a quality mini-hospital where the people of the area are provided all major services under one roof. This has significantly reduced the burden on two major hospitals in the capital city while saving precious lives which were being lost while ferrying emergency cases from these areas to hospitals in urban areas.
