Supreme Court rejects Balochistan CS report on incidents of target killing

ISLAMABAD : Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday rejected the report of the Balochistan chief secretary submitted on target killing incidents in the province and directed him to submit a detailed report comprising a list of all the target killing and other terror incidents occurred in past three years within a week.

A two member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani conducted the hearing of the case on Monday filed by Balochistan High Court Bar Association.
Giving remarks in the case Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said government will have to safeguard the rights of the people as Articles 9 and 14 of the constitution are not for display sake.
Apex court questioned the progress on the assassination case of the elderly Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Bugti who was killed five years ago in his cave. Only FIR has been registered in this case but the culprits are roaming around freely, court mourned.
Court questioned the existence of a democratic government and writ of the constitution in the province. Innocent people are being targeted; kidnapped and dead bodies are being recovered since three years but what has government done to stop such incidents, Court questioned.
Court said despite having necessary security force, sensitive agencies and cooperation of the Pak Army, province is failed to control the crime and law and order situation.
Court questioned the Chief Secretary about the previous order extending financial help to the people affected in such terror cases.
Replying to the above mentioned questions of the court, Chief Secretary Ahmed Baksh Lehri informed the court that aid worth Rs. 135 million has been provided so far to 260 affected people. Chief Secretary also informed the court that until 181 dead bodies have been recovered so far from the various districts of the province.
Chief Justice said Balochistan people are very patriotic and if the culprits of the terror incidents are not arrested then we would have to held government responsible for them.
He said the heirs of lost people are forced to knock all the doors but there is no one to help them.
He said we won’t allow Chief Secretary to sit and enjoy in his office. Implementation on the constitution is the source of strength for all of us, CJ said.
Chief Justice directed the Chief Secretary to arrange a meeting of the Chief Minister, Interior Minister and all the heads of the security agencies of the province and chart out a plan about the solution of the sensitive nature of this issue.
CJ regretted that eight innocent boys were killed playing in the ground and the incident was labeled as an act of sectarian enmity.
Later the case was adjourned till the 23rd of May. SANA
