Politics of confrontation not to serve country’s interest: Qamar Zaman Kaira

Former Information Minister and PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Sunday that the PPP believed in the politics of reconciliation as confrontation was not in the interest of country. Addressing a press conference along with Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan and former Law Minister Dr Babar Awan, Kaira said  “the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always supported the reconciliation process and taken all political parties on-board on all national issues as the politics of confrontation does not serve the interest of country.”
He said that the government was following the Charter of Democracy (CoD) and the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for strengthening democracy.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have always supported to take the reconciliation process forward by taking all the political parties on-board on national issues, he added.
Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the PPP was negotiating with the political parties outside the Parliament with an aim to resolve the problems being faced by the country.
He said that the path of confrontation adopted by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was not in the interest of democracy and the country.
“The PML-N has started the politics of hate and confrontation which will damage the interest of the country”.
He said that the PML-N believed in politics of authority but in fact such kind of politics could not work in the democracy.
He recalled that the PML-N had started giving deadlines soon after the formation of PPP government but “we are still serving the people who  elected us for five years.”
“The PPP will not allow any one to derail democracy”, he added.
He asked the Punjab government to give the detail of spending of additional Rs. 300 billion, which the province obtained under the NFC Award.
The PPP Information Secretary said that Pakistan was a victim of terrorism as about 35,000 people had been killed in the fight against terrorism.
“We are committed to eliminate terrorism from the country at all costs”, he vowed.
To a question he said that the PML-N had not given response to the government regarding the names, which the latter sent for inclusion in the Election Commission.
“Allegation that the government is delaying the formation of election commission is unjustified,” he added.
Enumerating the achievements of the government he said salaries of government employees have been increased by 110 percent.
He said that inflation has been brought down to 14 percent from 25 percent and the government is taking steps to bring it to single digit. APP
