Home Secretary G.K. Pillai Saturday said an updated list of India's
'Most Wanted' fugitives allegedly hiding in Pakistan would be given to
that country after mistakes were detected in the earlier list.
"The review of the entire list which was handed over is being
currently undertaken by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), the
NIA (National Investigation Agency) and various agencies. As soon as
they are completed, if there are any corrections to be made, we will
make that and then communicate the same to the Pakistani side," Pillai
told reporters on the sidelines of an Border Security Force function.
The move comes against the backdrop of mistakes found in the list of
50 'Most Wanted' terrorists that was handed over to Islamabad during
Pillai's talks with his Pakistani counterpart Choudhary Qamar Zaman in
Delhi March 28.
There were at least two suspected terrorists in the list who were
later found living in India -- one in jail and the other out on bail.
The home ministry directed the CBI, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and
the NIA to scrutinise, verify and revise the list, and update it.
Wazhul Khan, accused in many bomb blasts in Mumbai and its suburbs,
was found living in Thane though his name featured in the 'Most Wanted'
list given to Pakistan.
Another suspected terrorist, Feroze Ahmad Rashid Khan, accused in the 1993 blast case, was found lodged in a Mumbai jail.
Home Minister P. Chidambaram admitted the lapses occurred because of "genuine human error". IANS
