ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has made it clear on US that the two countries
cannot move ahead until all discrepancies and misgivings between the
two countries are removed while drone attacks still remains an irritant
between the two countries.
Briefing the media on the trip of US
Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to Pakistan Foreign office
spokesperson Tehmina Janjua on Saturday said Hillary’s visit helped
remove differences between the two countries, adding that the two sides
also discussed special operational steps She said that relations
between Pakistan and the United States were passing through ups and
downs for the last few months which the two sides were able to review
in the backdrop of regional situation.
FO spokesperson says
both sides reviewed Pak-US relations with reference to current
situation adding that Pakistan raised the question of drone attacks
with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
She said that it
would not be plausible to jump to conclusion at this stage. She said
that the issue of Pakistan’s sovereignty was strongly raised with the
US team and assurance was given that repeat of Abbottabad like
operations would be avoided. She said that security of strategic assets
was according to the international standards.
She said that
Hillary Clinton and US President Barack Obama had time and time again
had admitted to the sacrifices made by Pakistan in war against terror
and US has agreed to continue civilian military aid to Pakistan With
regard to peace process in Afghanistan Tehmina Janjua said Pakistan
would continue to extend support and cooperation in implementation of
peace process in Afghanistan but sincerity on the part of Afghan
government is must in connection with reconciliation process. It was
good omen that world was realizing the interests of Pakistan in
Afghanistan and the region, she held.
She went on to say that
core group comprising US, Pakistan and Afghanistan will meet in June to
monitor implementation of peace process in Afghanistan.
She
said that Pak-India talks on Siachen would be held on May 30. She said
that Pakistan would play its role more effectively in war against
terrorism.
Alluding to Pak-US strategic dialogue the spokesperson said the dates are being determined in this respect.
Regarding
reduction of presence of US troops in Pakistan and list of terrorists
the spokesperson said US troops would remain present in Pakistan in
conformity with operational needs. US had provided operational details
through the list of terrorists, she told.
Replying to a
question spokesperson said Pakistan had sought more details with
reference to list of wanted terrorists and utmost cooperation would be
extended to India on this count. Online
