SLAMABAD : The eleven member larger bench of the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of Presidential reference for revisiting of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto case till today (Thursday).
During the course of proceedings on Wednesday, counsel of the
federation Babar Awan submitted that he is demanding to review those
points which were ignored during the trial. He said Lahore High Court
continued the trial in the absence of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto just like
military courts.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that
there are worrisome disclosures regarding the case. He said we are
bound to follow the constitution.
The larger bench expressed its annoyance on Punjab police for not
submitting the complete record of Ichra police station, Lahore.
The bench directed the Inspector General of Punjab Police to submit
the record of the FIR registered against Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in 1974.
Later, talking to the media persons, PPP leaders said that the
record presented so far before the apex court has revealed some
important facts and proves that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s hanging was a
judicial murder.
Information Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party Qamar Zaman Kaira
said that complete the record of the FIR registered against Zulfiqar
Ali Bhutto is still missing and not presented before the larger bench.
He said the apex court has directed the concerned authorities to
submit the complete record and expressed the confidence that history
will stand corrected with the presentation of the complete record.
Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khoro said that injustice was done with
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who gave the country a constitution and worked for
the empowerment of the people. He said the purpose of filing the
presidential reference was to apprise the next generation of the
injustice done to the great leader.
In his remarks, Raja Parvez Ashraf said that the record presented so
far proves that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was innocent and his execution was
the murder of democracy. He said that Pakistan Peoples Party is
committed to strengthen the democratic norms in the country so that in
future no dictator could take over. SANA
