Lahore: The renowned nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has said
that the defence of the country has been made invulnerable after
attaining nuclear deterrence. Now India cannot impose war on Pakistan.
He was speaking at the convocation of Allama Iqbal Medical College here on Tuesday.
Dr
Qadeer Khan said that a lot of development works have been carried out
in Punjab. The people of the province are lucky that they got active
Chief Minister in the shape of Shahbaz Sharif, who should play his role
on the national level in the best interest of the country by emerging
out from provincial politics.
He said although the nuclear
father of India, Dr Abul Kalam Azad had been made President, but people
gave him so mush esteem and respect in Pakistan that the government
positions seem below from the status, that he is enjoying even without
holding any public office.
Dr Khan said when India, back in
1974, tested her nuclear arms, then Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto wrote him a
letter and he came , for Pakistan only, after leaving behind everything
in Holland. He got his first salary of Rs 3000 after three months. On
retirement he got pension of Rs 4000 per month, which has now been
enhanced to Rs 27000.
“Whenever I faced any problem, I always
telephoned to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, who not only got
resolved the issue but also responded by calling back within no time,
which is the indication of his greatness”, he told the gathering.
He
urged the medical students to serve the humanity without any
discrimination as their profession demands sincerity, sense of
responsibility and care of the patients round the clock. He said that
once they enter in professional life, they should avoid strikes, which
is the violation of their oath. He said that due to strike of the
doctors, only poor patients suffer which cannot afford private
treatment. He said that performing duties with utmost honesty during
challenging conditions is called the professionalism. He said that
wealth has not any value if compare with the human life.
Secretary
Health Punjab Muhammad Jahanzaib Khan, Vice Chancellor University of
Health Sciences Dr Hussain Mubashir Malik, Principal of the college
