Cricket : West Indies win toss, elects to bat in first test against Pakistan

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — West Indies captain Darren Sammy won the toss Thursday and chose to bat first in the opening test against Pakistan at National Stadium.

The hosts, who lost 3-2 in the preceding one-day series, omitted fast bowler Fidel Edwards and batsman Marlon Samuels from their 13-player squad.
Legspinner Devendra Bishoo makes his debut on his home ground, while the experienced Shivnarine Chanderpaul returns after being dropped for the ODI series.
Pakistan, captained by Misbah-ul-Haq, chose two specialist spinners in Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman as well as fast bowlers Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz.
The three players omitted from the visitors' squad were Hammad Azam, Junaid Khan and Tanvir Ahmed.
