Islamabad : Pakistan's defence authorities have informed a parliamentary committee that the United States owes about 3.5 billion dollars from the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) for Afghanistan.
The chairperson of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Finance, Fauzia Wahab revealed that out of the total amount of 12 billion dollars under the Coalition Support Fund, about 8.4 billion dollars had been paid while about Rs 3.5 billion dollars was outstanding.
Wahab also revealed that the defence budget for next fiscal, would not exceed three percent of the GDP.
According to government estimates, three per cent of GDP translates into Rs 619 billion as gross domestic product for fiscal 2011-2012 has been put at Rs 20,638 billion.
Pakistan armed forces had demanded for an allocation of Rs582 billion for defence, but it was scaled down by defence ministry, which recommended an allocation of Rs 524 billion, The Dawn reports. ANI
