Supreme Court issues notice on Indian in Pakistani jail

New Delhi : The Supreme Court Wednesday issued notice to the central government on a petition seeking steps for the release of Sarabjit Singh, who is in a jail in Pakistan facing death sentence.

The apex court bench of Justice B. Sudershan Reddy and Justice S.S. Nijjar issued the notice on a petition by Sarabjit Singh moved through his sister Dalbir Kaur.
Singh who was given death sentence by a Pakistani court for engaging in extremist activities, including using explosives, is in Kotlakhpat Central jail in Lahore for the last 21 years. Singh’s death sentence was stayed by Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf April 1, 2008.
The petitioner said that he was a victim of mistaken identity and was not even named in the police complaint in which he was convicted of murder charges. IANS
