Pakistan’s nuclear plants functioning safe in accordance with IAEA regulations

Chashma, Punjab : Pakistan’s nuclear power plants are functioning in accordance under safety regulations of International Atomic Energy Agency, says Chairman, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Dr Ansar Pervaiz.


Talking to newsmen Thursday after inauguration of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (CHASNUPP-2) by Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, he said all possible measures had been taken in view Japan’s Fukushima power plant mishap. “Very minute increase in radiation levels in Pakistan in aftermath of Fukushima incident had now died down. PAEC had formed three teams to look into nine different areas inwake of Fukushima disaster,” he stated.
He said cost of plant was initially high but running cost low with Rs 4.20 per unit against Rs 16 produced by Independent Power Plant. He said construction of Chashma-3 power plant had already startedand on Chashma-4 start in June. PAEC will follow Prime Minister’s directive to submit plan to government beyond year 2030 to provide 8800MW electricity. PPI
