Karachi : Javeria Khan played a brilliant and unbeaten inning of 63 runs and helped Pakistan women cricket team record a two-wicket win over host Sri Lanka in the opening game of a quadrangular One-Day International series also involving Ireland and the Netherlands in Colombo.
Javeria Khan played an important inning of unconquered 63 runs and played pivotal role in Pakistan’s successful chase of 154-run target with ten balls remaining after Sri Lanka had been dismissed for 153in their innings.Hosts slipped to 48-6 before their lower order mounted a recovery, although they still lost all ten wickets with a ball of their 50 overs unused.Qanita Jalil and Sadia Yousuf bowled well for Pakistan capturing three-wicket haul each, giving away 20 and 29 runs respectively. Masooma Junaid took two wickets, giving away 26 runs.In Pakistan’s turn, Sri Lankan bowlers managed to take wickets regularly but they failed to remove stubborn Javeria from the crease, who faced 118 balls and hit five fours to guide her side to victory.She received good support from Asmavia Iqbal, who made 25, and captain Sana Mir, who scored 20 runs.PPI
