Three wanted gangsters arrested

Three suspected gangsters of the notorious Ghaffar Zikri group were arrested by the Mauripur police after an encounter on Hawkesbay Road on Thursday.


Station House Officer (SHO) Nasrullah Khan of the Mauripur police station said the gangsters used to rob families coming to the Hawkesbay beach for picnic.

A spy had tipped off the police about the hideout of the gangsters near Musharraf Mor, Hawkesbay Road.

When the SHO and his police team reached there, the gangsters opened fire on them, which was retaliated. After a brief encounter, wanted criminal Riaz Brohi was arrested along with his two companions — Pervez and Gulzar.

The police also recovered pistols and a snatched motorcycle (KBV-1939) from them. During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they, besides looting families on the beach, also used to rob dumpers passing through Hawkesbay Road.

The also confessed to committing houses robberies in Defence and Clifton areas.

Several FIRs have been lodged against them and further investigations are under way.

Four robbers involved in cop’s killing held: The Shah Lateef Town police on Thursday arrested four robbers allegedly involved killing a constable after a brief encounter late Wednesday night.

Police recovered four TT pistols, five snatched motorcycles and 10 mobile phones from their possession.

According to the police, last night some armed motorcycle riders were intercepted by the police mobile of Shah Lateef Town near the graveyard in Zafar Town in the Shah Lateef Town police limits.

The armed men saw the police and

opened fire. Police retaliated. Constable Muhammad Akram, 40, who was hit by a bullet and died on the spot. The armed men managed to escape.

Early Thursday morning, an informant disclosed to the police that the accused in the policeman’s killing were hiding in Pir Sarhandi Goth. After a brief encounter, they arrested four accused including the gang leader.

During the initial interrogation accused disclosed their names as gang leader Muhammad Sadiq Jatoi, Muhammad Kashif, Muhammad Kareem, and Faiz Muhammad Korai.

The accused admitted that they were involved in a number of robberies and snatching cases in the various parts of the city. The accused also admitted that last night they killed a constable after an encounter. Police recovered four TT pistols, five snatched motorcycles, and 10 mobile phones from them.
