PESHAWAR: A lawyer on Thursday moved the Peshawar High Court against the 9.9 per cent fresh increase in the prices of petroleum products by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra).
A Peshawar lawyer and leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz F.M Sabir in a constitutional petition pleaded that the increase enforced through the February 28 notification was unjust and unfair.
He said that people were already suffering due to inflation but the government shifted the burden of its overspending, mismanagement and corruption on the masses by increasing the petroleum prices.
The petitioner said the hike in petroleum prices would cause further inflation and leave negative impact on the industrial production. The petitioner submitted before the court that due to the increase in petroleum prices, the General Sales Tax and taxes would also be imposed on the citizens contrary to Article 77 of the Constitution.
He argued in the petition that the increase was not compatible with international prices of petroleum products. The petitioner prayed the court to set aside the notification of increase in the POL and come to the rescue of the people of Pakistan.
The petitioner made the federation through Ministry of Petroleum and Gas, Ogra, secretary Ministry of petroleum, OGDC, secretaries for finance and Trade and Commerce as respondents in the petition.
