US supports democracy in Pakistan: State Department

The United States has said it supports the democratic process in Pakistan.

"As we have always said, we support the democratic process in Pakistan," The Daily Times quoted US State Department spokesperson Mark Toner, as saying.

The statement comes after Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani warned that conspirators were plotting to topple the Pakistan Government.

Toner added that the US hoped that Pakistan would re-open the NATO supply route along the border with Afghanistan, which were sealed after the deadly November 26 incident, which had killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

The Pentagon has, however, indicated that the closing of the border had no impact on the NATO operations in Afghanistan, nor had led to any shortage in supplies. (ANI)
