The Jamaat e Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said the rulers have planned a clash of democratic institutions which was most condemnable.
Addressing a large Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque, he said
that the clash of institutions would be far more dangerous than clash of
bulls.
Describing Prime Minister Gilani’s address in the National Assembly
on Thursday as most irresponsible, he said the government was pushing
the country towards anarchy.
He said, the Premier was saying that all institutions were
subservient to him but the tone and tenor of his address was improper.
The real issue, he said, was the memo gate scandal. All the
statements field in the Supreme Court so far supported the view that the
whole game was to disgrace the armed forces. The Americans had also
accepted the existence of the memo and the Supreme Court had made it
clear that the President’s failure to submit a reply implied acceptance
of the allegations.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that from the very first day, the present
government had been at war with the Supreme Court and now the Prime
Minister had challenged the armed forces as well.
He said the JI would never support Martial Law as military rule in the past had driven the country towards destruction.
However, he said, the present elected government had done maximum
harm to democracy. The rulers only paid lip service to democracy as
their attitude was quite contrary.
Referring to the Premier’s question as to who had issued visa to
Osama Bin Laden, the JI chief asked the Prime Minister to explain who
had issued visas to thousands of US citizens and Black Water personnel
and CIA man Raymond Davis who killed three innocent citizens but the
rulers honorably sent him back.
He said that instead of stepping down after accepting its total
failure, the government was making futile efforts to win public
sympathies by posing itself as wronged and political martyrs. SANA
