During the hearing of rental power plant case Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered the
government to take back the amount of 4 billion rupees along with
interest till today (Friday) which government paid to Rushma power plant
in advance.
The SC bench head by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the rental power plants suo motu case
and the petitions filed by Federal Minister for Housing and Works Syed
Fasil Saleh Hayat and the PML (N) leader Khwaja Asif.
During the hearing the council of water and power, GECO and PEPCO Mr.
Tariq Raheem told the bench that the Rushema Power Plant paid back 2.5
billion rupees from the advance payment. During remarks Chief Justice
said that the government paid advance payment of Rs 4 billion and it has
its interests. CJ further said that, why the whole amount has not been
paid so for.
Responding to query, government council Tariq Raheem said that the
government will contact to get the interest amount from the Rushma Power
Plant. On the occasion the Minister for Housing and Works said that the
government paid the amount in dollars and the amount should be returned
in the same currency.
Chief Justice said that NEPRA is a government institution and it also
accepted that the mismanagement occurred in rental power plants. During
the hearing Justice Khalji Arif Hussain said that government took loans
and paid advance. It means that there is favoritism and loan is
returning back after two and half years and its ratio is half of the
total amount. SANA
