SHIKARPUR: A shutter-down strike was observed in several cities of
Sindh on Monday against the revival of local bodies system and
abolition of commissionerate system.
The call for the strike
was given by Sindh’s nationalist parties. Business activities remained
suspended throughout the day, while transport was also very thin.
Rallies
were staged in many cities to record protest against the Sindh
government’s decision to abolish commissionerate system. There was
complete strike in Naushero Feroze, Shikarpur, Thatta, Dadu and
Benazirabad.
While partial strike was witnessed in Hyderabad
and Sukkur and Larkana. Attendance in schools and offices was also
below normal.
A rally was taken out from railway station to
press club in Mirpur. Participants of the rally chanted slogans in
favour of the Commissionarate system.
In Dadu, different groups
held demonstrations in the city, demanding an immediate withdrawal of
ordinance regarding revival of Local Bodies system. Sanghar District
Bar also staged a protest against the move.
In Sukkur, unknown
person carrying sticks forced traders to close down their shops and
patrolled the city. Nationalist parties held rallies in Larkana and
