Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday reiterated the resolve to protect the
constitution of Pakistan at all costs, adding that the institution of
the state would be protected and rule of law is in the interest of the
nation.
A Full Court meeting was held on Wednesday in the Supreme Court of
Pakistan,
Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Justice
of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and was attended by
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Shakirullah
Jan, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Hon’ble Mr. Justice
Nasir-ul-Mulk, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Muhammad Sair Ali, Hon’ble Mr.
Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali,
Hon’ble, Mr. Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tariq
Parvez, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Asif
Saeed Khan Khosa, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany, Hon’ble Mr.
Justice Amir Hani Muslim & Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ghulam Rabbani. Dr.
Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court of Pakistan and Mr. Sajid
Mehmood Qazi, Additional Registrar, Supreme Court also attended the
meeting.
Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the Hon’ble Judges in the
meeting. The Full Court meeting took stock of the present pendency
position of cases at the apex Court. The Registrar informed that
disposal of cases has registered remarkable increase due to continuous
working of Hon’ble Judges even during the summer vacations.
Chief Justice appreciated the commitment and devotion of all the
Hon’ble Judges for sitting in various benches both at the principle
seat and the branch registries. He appreciated the fact that due to
these efforts the backlog of pending cases has been reduced by more
than two thousand. This figure would have been much higher had the
Hon’ble Judges were not busy in hearing many important cases which were
heard by Full Court or larger benches over a long period of time.
The Chief Justice said that since the restoration of the independent
judiciary, public at large has attached great expectations from the
judiciary to deliver. Thus, it is imperative upon both the Bar and the
Bench to leave no stone unturned to ensure quick, inexpensive and
substantial justice at all levels.
The Full Court reiterated the fact that the Supreme Court will
“preserve protect and defend constitution” and will always uphold the
rule of law and dispense justice to all without fear and favour. Full
Court observed that the national salvation lies in applying the
principle of rule of law and resisting any deviation from constitution
under any circumstances.
The Chief Justice and Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court
acknowledged the meritorious services rendered by the Hon’ble Mr.
Justice Javed Iqbal who is about to lay down his robes by the end of
this month. Hon’ble Chief Justice observed that one reason for
convening this Full Court meeting is to acknowledge the contributions
made by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal as a judge of the Apex Court
and to thank him for an out standing career spread over many decades.
Full Court discussed the idea of introduction of law clerkship in
the Supreme Court wherein young and outstanding law graduates may be
offered an opportunity to work in the Court. It was decided that
Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jawwad S Khawaja will develop the concept paper on
this idea which will be shared with other Hon’ble Judges before final
decision is taken in the next Full Court meeting. The Full Court also
concluded various other matters pertaining to office administration for
expediting disposal of cases to provide quick relief to aggrieved
persons and decide the disputes among litigant parties. SANA
