ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing has taken notice of irregularities in Lady Health Worker programs in various districts of Sindh.
Meeting
of the sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Health met
here in the parliament house on Wednesday that was chaired by Kalsoom
Perveen.
The chairperson expressed her annoyance over stealing
of medicines, that were provided to the programmes, in Karachi. She
also took notice of the report that several vehicles of the programme
were burnt by some protesting mobs.
She asked about the details
of the expenditures of the programme in Karachi, Sukkur and others. She
enquired about the facilities and salaries to LHW and showed her
dissatisfaction over performances of the officials in various
districts.
Replying to the committee queries EDO Karachi Dr
Nasir Javid said that they had no medicines for months for the
programme after stores were sacked by some unknown culprits.
“Then
what the other staff was doing and what was the use of the visit by
Lady Health Worker to the field as you claimed money,” Ms. Perveen
raised objection.
She said that majority districts’ officials
from Sindh do not sent utilizations to the parliament or the concerned
officials and demand more money.
She instructed the concerned
programme manager to audit the programme in the province and present
the report to the parliament.
She angrily said that the federal
government fully supported the programme in Sindh but the provincial
officials are trying to fail it.
She ordered the concerned
officials to present full details including salaries, bills of
repairing work in vehicles and other to the committee in the next
meeting.
The meeting was attended by the provincial health officials besides the federal officials and members of the committee. Online
