A new study conducted by the American
Academy of Pediatrics has revealed that energy drinks or sports drinks
contain too much caffeine which is unsuitable for consumption by
children.
It stated that these drinks should be reserved for overworked athletes and not kids."For most children engaging in routine physical activity, plain water is best," said Holly Benjamin, a sports medicine expert who co-wrote the report.
According to the report, energy drinks contain caffeine and other stimulants that have been linked to problems in children's neurological and cardiovascular systems and "should never be consumed" by them.
Another harmful effect of the sports drinks is that they can lead to obesity and tooth decay in kids. The vitamin, which the drink claims to provide, can be obtained from a well-balanced diet.
The study report has been released in the online journal Pediatrics. (ANI)
