Islamabad - The Pakistan Government has rejected reports that it is planning to roll back the nuclear programme.
A Press Information Department (PID) statement slammed the speculation of a rollback of the country's nuclear programme as totally baseless.
The statement comes after former Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had alleged that present government is a threat to the country's nuclear programme.
The government's spokesperson pointed out that former Pakistan prime minister Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had initiated the country's nuclear programme and sacrificed his life for the programme's cause.
"No one can compromise on the nuclear assets of the country", the Daily Times quoted the statement, as saying.
The Pakistan government spokesman said the nuclear assets are in safe hands and the current government would never allow rolling back of the nuclear programme or cutting down of the budget related to its development.
The spokesman added that the present government is committed to nuclear development and is focussing on strengthening the country's defense. (ANI)
