Protest against Qadri’s death penalty

Rawalpindi: Religious parties have shown their resentment over the capital punishment to Mumtaz Qadri, murderer of former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer and announced to observe protest day on next Friday.

A protest rally was held on Murree Road against the decision of the court here on Saturday under auspices of Aalmi Tanzeem Ahl-e-Sunnat. Central leader of the Tanzeem Pir Afzal Qadri and head of Jamia Rizvia Pir Syed Haseen-ud-Din Shah led the demonstrations.
The protesters marched from Moti Mahal Chowk to Liaquat Bagh, where they burnt tyres on the both sides of the road and blocked traffic for a while. They were also holding portraits of Mumtaz Qadri as well as banners, posters and placards on which catch-phrases were depicted against the court judgment. They also chanted high-pitched slogans against government.
Speaking on the occasion Pir Afzal Qadri and Haseen-ud-Din Shah said that court gave its verdict against Mumtaz Qadri under the government’s pressure, so the religious parties and clerics of the country will not accept it. They demanded to cancel the judgment and acquit Mumtaz Qadri honourably.
They threatened the government that if the judgment was not changed, they would not only start protest campaign but also boycott PPP at every forum. Online
