Pakistan wants early repatriation of Afghan refugees: Minister

Islamabad: The Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Engr. Shaukat Ullah said that in the present scenario the Afghan refugees are posing problems for Pakistan and we want early and honorable repatriation of these refugees.

Talking to Online on Saturday, the Minister said that currently Pakistan is hosting more than One million registered Afghan refugees while un registered Afghan refugees are 1.7 million. He said that we want the repatriation process to be expedited as we are not only facing the shortage of funds but their presence is posing social problems for us.
Meanwhile the Minister will be leaving for Geneva today (Sunday)
During his stay he will participate in the 62nd Executive Committee Session of UNHCR and he will be addressing the Session as well. Later on he will hold a meeting with UN Higher Commissioner for Refugees Mr. Antonio Gutteres and inform him about the matters related to about three millions Afghan Refugees living in Pakistan and will discuss the progress of “Afghan Refugees Management and Repatriation strategy 2012.
