Hectic efforts underway to develop prisons in line with present day needs: KP Governor

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar said that the concept that prisoners should become useful and productive members of society after their release has become well acknowledged world over.

Talking to prisoners during his visit to Central Prison, Peshawar on Eid Day the Governor Barrister Masood Kausar further stated that fortunately, we are engaged in the struggle for well being of the people in a democratic environment and there is a need that the inmates of prisons, no matter whatever nature of their crimes have pushed them behind the bars, should willingly come forward and rebuild their lives on constructive lines.
Simultaneously, he added, they should also make best use of the available facilities of vocational training being offered to them within the premises of prisons. “Your aim should be to initiate a new life, as and when you come out the prisons”, he added.
He added that like aware societies elsewhere, hectic efforts are also underway to develop the prisons in line with the present day needs and introduce reforms therein in our motherland too.
Barrister Masood Kausar spent a busy day on the Eid Day and besides the Central Prison, Peshawar he also went to Hayatabad Medical Complex where he enquired after the health of the patients. During his visit to the Central Prison, the Governor went to ladies barracks; gave away gifts, sweets and toys to the minor children lodged with their mothers.
He also listened to the problems and grievances of the prisoners; received applications and assured to take necessary steps for their resolution. Responding to a particular grievance with regard to the remissions, announced by the provincial as well as the Federal governments from time to time, the Governor assured the prisoners to take up their requests at the respective level and resolve their grievances in this respect.
Talking on a request put forward by the prisoners, hailing from FATA, the Governor also referred to the recently enacted reforms oriented regulations in FATA and said that a pleasant change is in the offing in FATA which would also lead to prove a big step to resolve the grievances of the prisoners from FATA. However, he assured them to look into their grievances and take up their case at the Federal level to resolve their grievances.
Later on during his visit to the Hayatabad Medical Complex, the Governor went to different wards and enquired after the health of the patients. While extending Eid greetings to them, the Governor said, “he really feels satisfied to meet the patients purely on humanitarian grounds on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr”. He also wished early recovery of the injured.
Meanwhile the Inspector General of the Central Prison, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mr. Qudrat Ullah Khan Marwat and the Chief Executive of the Hayatabad Medical Complex, Mr. Aftab Akbar Durrani briefed the governor about working of their respective organizations as well as the salient features of their future development plans.
