ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday called upon all the political parties to join hands and assist the government to foil conspiracies being hatched to destabilize the country.
Winding up debate on the Law and Order situation in Karachi and Quetta, Malik assured the National Assembly that target killing in Karachi has been controlled while there are some small groups involved in various crimes, for whom the local Station House Officers were held responsible to maintain the law and order in the their respective areas.
The Minister said that a Parliamentary Committee of all the political parties be constituted to suggest a durable solution to the law and order situation for the economic hub of the country. He said the said committee should sit in Karachi where the interior ministry and provincial government would be at its disposal.
He said the said committee would be told about the entire operation of drug and land mafia and local criminals in Karachi and all the facts would be placed before them.
The Minister said that the accused of terrorists incidents were freed by the courts due to lack of evidences and for that the Government had submitted a bill in the Senate. He said that one and half year has been passed but the bill is still there. He said if there is any problem there it should be discussed in the National Assembly.
He opine that undoubtedly Taliban, Land Mafia and others are involved in unrest and disturbance in Karachi urging he wants to give in-camera briefing to the NA urging politicians must refrain from point scoring and fighting with each other.
On the matter of law and order in Karachi and Quetta, he told NA that he wants to give an in-camera briefing to unveil the facts.
He advised political activists not to raise their flags at public places in Karachi.
He was of the view that whosoever will give substantial evidence of anti state elements, he will be rewarded and name kept secret, Rehman underlined.
He said 56 extortionists have been arrested with the help of chambers of commerce. During the last two years 108 persons were killed in sectarian violence in Karachi, he pointed out.
‘I want to give in camera briefing to the house on Karachi situation”, he stated. “I don’t impose my order but I assist Sindh government, he added. Some imprudent person abuse army, security forces, government and political parties. I don’t know what they want”, he held.
About 64 target killers were arrested in 2010 while 8 during 2011, he indicated. The culprits are released by courts due to legal lacunas, he underlined.
Anti Terrorism Bill could not be approved in senate even after lapse of one year, he regretted. Those accused in Prate bomb blasts and the killers of Gen Mushtaq are roaming with impunity.
A parliamentary committee representing all the political parties be constituted which should visit Karachi, collect the facts and make them public through parliament, he said.
Poverty is also contributing towards proliferation of terrorism, he said adding Taliban enrol youths on monthly salary of Rs 25000 which is higher than what is paid in government jobs, he stated. .
Target killing has come to end and now the nominal crimes are taking place, he told. People should not rent out their homes without verification, he cautioned. Islamabad comes under my charge while chief ministers are administrative heads in provinces, he said.
PML-N selected Islamabad for its convention and asked me for making security arrangements and I considered it as a matter of honour for me, he underscored.
