Non-cooperation from Haris Afzal with inquiry committee amounts to ridicule court’s decision: Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) while adjourning hearing of Punjab Bank Fraud case till August, 16 has observed non cooperation by Haris Afzal son of the accused with inquiry committee is tantamount to make mockery of court’s decision.

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Shakir Ullah Jan took up the case for hearing Tuesday.
Advocate General (AG) Punjab Khawaja Haris told the court that Haris Afzal son of Sheikh Afzal, owner of Haris Steel Mills and his other associates were not cooperating with inquiry committee in connection with scrutiny of assets and due to this reason head of the committee Jamshed Ali Shah was too much disappointed and he was considering to isolate him from the committee. The court expressed extreme displeasure over it.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja said non-cooperation by Haris Afzal with the committee amounted to ridiculing court’s verdicts.
AG Punjab requested the court to issue orders for arresting both the accused persons or to allow the committee to work in their absence.
The court while granting more time on the request of counsel for Haris Afzal has adjourned the hearing of the case till August, 16. Online
