Former captain Shahid Afridi has rebuffed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ijaz Butt’s remarks that he had violated any code of conduct, for which he was sacked as skipper.
Afridi had been leading the Twenty20 and ODI sides since early 2010 before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently removed him as one-day captain for the series against Ireland, appointing Test captain Misbahul Haq, 37, as his successor.
PCB Chairman Butt said this week that some of the comments made by Afridi, whom he recently sacked as ODI captain, were against the code of conduct.
However, Afridi told Geo News that he has never violated the code of conduct in any of his international tours, adding that in fact, there were rumours to replace him.
Afridi had developed differences with Pakistan coach Waqar Younis on selection matters during the team’s 3-2 win against the West Indies earlier this month, and his public criticism of the coach ultimately led to him losing the captaincy.
The all-rounder said that he paid the price of spilling the truth, as PCB members did not approve of it since there were members in the committee who wanted to bring their relatives in the team.
Criticising the PCB, Afridi, who announced his decision to retire from international cricket on Monday, said that he was tolerating ill schemes against him for a long time, but that there is always a limit to everything. ANI
