At least eight people including seven policemen and
one woman passerby were killed in a checkpoint attack launched
Wednesday morning by militants in the Upper Dir district of northwest
Pakistan,
reported local Urdu TV channel Express.
According to the local media reports, the attack took place when a
group of militants from Afghanistan tried to enter Pakistan through the
Upper Dir district which borders Afghanistan.
The firing between the militants and the securities forces is still
going on, said the local media reports, adding that more than a dozen
of militants are involved in the attack.
In retaliation, the Pakistani security forces fired back at the militants by gunship helicopters.
Meanwhile, two schools and one bridge were reportedly blown up by
unknown militants in the same district. It is not known whether these
attacks are coordinated actions or not. Xinhua
