LAHORE: PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that terrorism and extremism can be ruled out of the country only through rule of constitution, law and justice.
Addressing a condolence reference for the recently murdered journalist, Saleem Shazad, he warned that if this maddening circle of killings of journalists, harming judiciary and violating constitution did not cease, he would take out another long march.
He said that though PML-N made mistakes in the past, yet PML-N had learnt from these mistakes, while others carried these mistakes on.
While fully lauding the sacrifices and efforts of journalists in highlighting every issue for masses, he said that the murder of Saleem Shazad was not an isolated case, as many earlier cases had also occurred.
He expressed his strong resolve to restore the pride of Country, declaring that this pride and love for Pakistan’s honor was above all other considerations, and said that if Charter of Democracy had been implemented in its true spirit and letter, the situation of Federation would have been different.
Referring to the Kargil conflict, he said that it had been engineered by Pervez Musharraf, who even kept the air chief in the dark, while only four generals, General Aziz, General Mahmood, Gen Hasan, and Musharraf himself were aware. “By the time the matter came to my knowledge, Pervez Musharraf had already decided to violate constitution, and arrest me, the PM “ he reminisced.
He also disclosed that during the Kargil operation, after DCC meeting, Musharraf had asked Gen Aziz whether Mian Nawaz Sharif was in the know about this plan, as Musharraf was worried over exposure.
He regretted that President Zardari had accorded a guard of honour to Pervez Musharraf before leaving the Country, in lieu of Musharraf’s dedicated services to dictatorship in Country.
He dispelled the notion that PML-N was against institutions, but rather adhered to truth and ground realities. “A handful of generals were responsible for giving a bad name to Army, as majority of Army was not in favor of martial law”, he added. Online
