Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has called on the 'world's peace loving nations' to resolve the Kashmir issue, saying that regional peace cannot be guaranteed unless the solution to the issue is found.
"Unless this core issue is resolved, the dream of peace and harmony in the region cannot come true," The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.
He stressed the need to acknowledge Kashmiris' right to self- determination according to the United Nations (UN) resolution and India-Pakistan sustained dialogue on the issue.
He said the solution to the Kashmir issue lied in realizing the miseries of local people and the fact that the issue had adversely affected the socio-economic development of both countries.
Speaking on the inauguration of development projects in education and infrastructure for Azad Kashmir, he said the government has taken steps to uplift the living standard of the people.
He said the disaster risk management and medical rehabilitation programme for disabled had been completed in all nine districts of Azad Kashmir. He mentioned the completion of over 4,000 water and sanitation schemes, and construction of 40 bridges. (ANI)
