Nine Indian policemen, including a senior officer, were killed Monday evening in a landmine blast triggered by suspected extreme left-wing Naxal rebels in a jungle in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, reported the Press Trust of India on Tuesday.
Among the killed was a additional superintendent of Chhattisgarh's Gariabandh district police force, said the report.
A 10-member police team led by additional superintendent Rajesh Pawar was sent to Amamora and Sonabed jungle near the Orissa border following reports of rebel movement in the area.
When the police team was returning last evening, their vehicle broke down and they then boarded a tractor. The rebels then triggered a landmine blast which blew up the tractor, killing nine policemen, said the report. Xinhua
