LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday while
declaring the appointment of Rana Zahid Mehmood as Director General
National Accountability Bureau Punjab as illegal has restrained him to
continue his job.
The bench, comprising Justice Sheikh Ahmad
Farooq and Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan heard the Petition, challenging
the functioning of Rana Zahid Mehmood as Director General (DG) of NAB
allegedly after his contract had expired on April 20, 2010.
The
counsel of federal Government adopted a stance before the learned court
that the contract of DG NAB Punjab has not been extended after April
20, 2010 therefore he is not illegible to act as DG NAB Punjab.
Rana
Zahid Mehmood, DG NAB Punjab in his remarks told the court that Federal
Government can not cancel his contract. Only Director General (DG) NAB
is authorized to cancel his contract, he said. He said he was working
as DG NAB because of absence of Chairman NAB.
The petitioner’s
counsel, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, told the court that NAB works under
the control of Federal Government and federal Government is authorized
to cancel contract of DG NAB Punjab.
The court after hearing the arguments has ordered Rana Zahid Mehmood to stop working as DG NAB Punjab. Online
